Rebill markup calculator
To set a markup on a rebilled service, take what the provider charges you for one period, add your percentage and round to the cent. A 20% markup on CA$35 a month is CA$42 a month, which leaves you CA$84 a year. Enter your cost below, then either a markup or the price you want to charge.
How the numbers work
The price is your cost plus your markup, or cost × (1 + markup). The calculator works in whole cents and rounds a half cent up, the same way Yven prices a rebilled service. Yearly figures multiply a monthly price by twelve and spread a longer renewal over its years, so a CA$24 domain that renews every two years counts as CA$12 a year.
Markup and margin are different numbers
Markup is measured against your cost. Margin is measured against the price. A 20% markup on CA$35 gives a price of CA$42 and CA$7 kept, which is 16.67% of the price. Someone who wants a 20% margin and applies a 20% markup ends up with less than planned. To keep 20% of the price you need a 25% markup. If you already have a price in mind, choose “The price I want to charge” and the calculator works backwards to the markup.
What a markup pays for
You are the one who keeps the account current, notices when a renewal is about to lapse, and deals with the provider when something breaks. Without a markup, that work is unpaid overhead. I won’t suggest a percentage, because I have no source for what a fair one is. Look at what the provider charges, what the client would pay if they bought it themselves, and how much work the account makes for you.
What this calculator does not do
It doesn’t know your provider’s real prices, sales tax or VAT, or currency conversion fees, and it’s not tax or legal advice. Check your provider’s terms if you’re unsure whether it allows resale. Nothing you type is sent or stored: the sum happens in your browser. The page records one anonymous count that the calculator was used, never the numbers.
In Yven, or in a spreadsheet
A spreadsheet does the same sum with a single formula, and for a few services that’s enough. If you rebill more, Yven keeps the markup on each service, private from the client. When you mark a rebilled service renewed, it records the charge at the marked-up price so it lands on the client’s next invoice. See how services record who pays, or read what goes in a client book, or who should pay for each service.
